Press from Coppelia

...guest artist for "Coppelia" will be John Gossett, right, who has danced for the Chicago City Ballet, Dallas Ballet, and Houston Ballet...

This ballet, with choegraphy by Shirley Scheer, artistic director, is about Swalinda, betrothed to Frantz, who is also fascinated by the girl Coppelia, who always sits on her balcony, book in hand. Swalinda and her friends finding the lost keys of Dr. Coppelius, the eccentric toymaker, set out to investigate the secrets of his workroom and to go meet Coppelia. John Gosset, who has danced with the Dallas Ballet, the Houston Ballet, and Chicago City Ballet, will dance the role of Frantz....

Leslie Shay of Washington and John Gossett have lead roles in Peoria Civic Ballet's "Coppelia" Friday and Saturday...Gossett has danced with the Chicago, Dallas, and Houston ballet companies...

...This "Coppelia" is extremely rich and detailed and is danced splendidly by a largely young company. And its two major soloists, John Gossett and Leslie Shay, manage to conjure up that necessary stage magic so necessary to propel dancers, musicians and actors off the stage ,as it were, and into the heart.

Gossett is so obviously seasoned, strong, energetic and superbly conrtrolled. His style is both athletic and nimble. He is graced with a lightness, but is hardly a lightweight. His leaps are airy, prolonged, his finesse dazzling and his lifts managed with almost lyrical ease...

 "Still waiting for the bus."
